Games leading up to the beginning of the transfer window
We have some very winnable games coming up before the window opens on Jan 1, and while that guarantees nothing of course, look at Brighton and Brentford at home, but we must have a very good chance to rack up some points over the next 6 games which could see us in a very good position (maybe 4th) come Jan 1 (Palace game) and of course we are in the last 16 of the CL. Games..

Burnley (A)
Arsenal (A)
Naarwich (H)
Soton (H)
Watford (A)
Palace (A)

Point is could a lofty position come Jan 1, a) see the owners get their check books out, with Moyes in a very strong position to ask for money? b) be more attractive to potential targets?

As has been said many times, January is not the best time to buy, and you hear Moyes isn't a manager that goes to the board asking for money, but could we really push on if everything comes together over the next month?

Fwiw, I'd like to see 4 players. Would be happy with Tarkowski, Lingard, a CB and a LB. That could really see us push on?

I'd be happy with a striker who can play winger like Hlozik. I'd probably go for a loaned centreback, as five centrebacks seems a bit unwieldy.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Rice dropping back and Kral playing midfield now and then.

Good post, OP, nice to see there are some on here who know what they are talking about. Some of the comments on yesterday's match thread beggar belief.

Those six next games look tasty, reckon we could get 13-15 points at least. Only thing I disagree on is in Lingard. Not sure I want him back again. Fancy he will be off to the Barcodes. He had his chance to return and they are never as good when they come back the second time. Case in point Lukaku, cant believe they squandered 98 million to get that useless lug back.

it was interesting looking at who those cunts have got in the lead up to the QF, they have Brighton (A) on the same day we go to Burnley, Leicester (A) the night we play Arsenal and then Liverpool (H) the day after we play Norwich. I love it :.)

Mattie - Sure, 13-15 is optimistic imo, but hope so. This thread isn't really a guess the number of points we can get malarky though, it's more will a strong league position in Jan make any difference to our fortunes in the window.

Ref Linagrd, I felt the same until recently, but really think we could do with his goal threat right now. But being a football fan I will probably change my mind again.

Interesting with Lukaku, a beast on his day, but would be fucking funny if he has fell off a cliff.

Jan not usually the best time but there are some good players coming to the end of their deals.

Lingard and Tarkowski being two of them.

I think Lingard will come and be a great signing.

See us also being linked with that Nat Phillips from Liverpool.

Hopefully the owners back the manager so we can keep this momentum.

We definitely need a couple of players as we are so close to having a squad (injuries permitting) that can really challenge to finish in the top 4 and win a trophy this season. My guess is that with their deal to sell done GSB won’t want to put any more in so it’ll be all DK’s money if any is spent?

I can see 12 points from that lot if we don’t get any more injuries. If Diop or Dawson or Coufal go down this month, we are screwed. As it stands right now we have zero cover across the whole back 4.

Needs to be long term investment - not Tarkowski for £10-15m just to plug the Ogbonna gap.

Need players who will benefit us in 5 years not 5 months.

If they aren’t available then sign no one and play Perkins and Chesters.

Tarkowski is 29, numnuts.

Watching MOTD last night I noted that Divock OIrigi's goal stats when starting were pretty decent but he seems quite happy to sit on the bench at Liverpool. Origi and Lingard (at their best) would be two decent signings on paper.

Everton v Arsenal (W)
Arsenal v Southampton (W)
Arsenal v West Ham United (D)
Leeds United v Arsenal (W)
Norwich City v Arsenal (W)
Arsenal v Wolverhampton Wanderers (W)

16 points

Tottenham Hotspur v Norwich City (W)
Brighton & Hove Albion v Tottenham Hotspur (W)
Leicester City v Tottenham Hotspur (W)
Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool (L)
Tottenham Hotspur v Crystal Palace (W)
Southampton v Tottenham Hotspur (W)

15 points.

These are our main worries, I feel - only one real challenge for either amongst December's fixtures; we need both of those clubs to drop at least 4 more points between now and the New Year.

Tarkowski could easily play for another 5 years. He’s only just turned 29. Ogbonna is 33 and at the peak of his career (injury notwithstanding).

We need (NEED) a 2nd centre forward.

The fact that we haven't had a 2nd one for a year now is fucking ridiculous.

I think he likes the smaller, technical players in those positions. Salah, Mane, Jota and Firmino all not dissimilar in stature whereas Origi looks a big, strong powerful player, much like Antonio, hence why if we are looking for a similar player it looks a no brainer.

FFP

Picked up on an interesting article recently around FFP and how much clubs have to spend over the next two windows before being in breach - apparently the thresholds are being closely monitored, all part of the Newcastle fall out

We had around £75m from memory

Everton are fucked, they had the square root of fuck all, indicative of their £1.7m summer spend

Ake on loan
Lingard
Origi
LB on loan from EU

First 3 are all premier league experienced from clubs with a winning mentality who are used to playing at a high level (when they play) and training under highly skilled demanding managers.

Liverpool and Man City are not direct competition, currently Man U are.
